The introduction of a new generation of engines in accordance with Tier 4 as a result of the further reduction in emission limits prescribed by law in the future was the reason for implementing a far-reaching redesign of the single-drum compactors. The new single-drum compactors represent a new generation that has been optimized in terms of production technology, use and environment, and has also been fundamentally revised from an ergonomic point of view.
Environmentally friendly efficiency through deployment optimization
A drastic reduction in pollutant emissions is achieved through new engines with fuel particulate filters and soot particulate filter regeneration as well as a standard, state-of-the-art engine management system. The electronic engine management system additionally regulates all engine and vehicle settings on a load-dependent basis, so that noise emissions and fuel consumption in the work process are also significantly reduced. In addition, an efficient measuring and documentation system helps to limit the number of passes over the soil to be compacted to the absolute minimum. All in all, this increases productivity and compaction quality while at the same time significantly reducing operating time.
The combination of driving dynamics and high drive reserves with the large slope angles, which have a significant influence on the design, results in a significantly improved off-road capability of the rollers, which further extends the operational capability and the range of applications for the operator.
Manufacturing optimization through design
The design of the single-drum compactors can be explained, among other things, by the optimization of production technology, which both conserves resources and reduces costs. Many components are now used across all types. The color scheme of the individual assemblies is the result of production logistics considerations, also with regard to cooperation with suppliers.
For example, stock sheets from the supplier’s shelf are used for the side plates on the drum frame, which can be produced with only a few laser cuts and minimal waste thanks to the mirror-inverted arrangement of the side plate contour. For the front cross-members, a reinforced thin sheet is cast with exposed concrete for flexible ballasting. The operator’s workplace – with and without comfort cab – offers everything that makes his daily work not only more pleasant but also safer. Thanks to the extensive glazing, the air-conditioned cabs offer a maximum of safety-relevant overview of the machine itself – and of the working environment. Four work lights integrated into the roof ensure this overview and thus the safe movement of the machines even in the dark thanks to appropriate illumination. The cab versions are equipped with fully glazed doors on both sides.
The excellent visibility is enhanced by the shape of the sloping hood contour, which also tapers towards the operator’s cab. The visibility in front of and behind the machine even falls below the 1×1 meter mark.
Taking into account the long time the operator spends at his workplace (these machines are used for large-scale construction work), great importance was attached to upgrading the cab interior, in conjunction with ergonomic optimizations.
Fully enclosed and thus even quieter, the cab interior creates a pleasantly homely ambience for the operator, with the necessary storage and stowage facilities within easy reach. Documents can be stored securely. The space for a cool box with a 12 V connection has also been considered, as has the use of this connection for other consumers such as cell phones.
The new development focused in particular on the access steps to the driver’s cab, which can now be reached comfortably and, above all, safely thanks to the staggered arrangement of the steps. The staggered step arrangement, which can be seen from above, makes descent in particular much easier.
On the operator platform, the control console and steering wheel can be freely adjusted with a minimum of effort. The swiveling seat enables the driver to drive backward comfortably over longer distances without contortions. All operating and display elements are oriented toward the driver. The operating concept is designed to be simple, logical and language-neutral for intuitive handling. All user interface symbols are self-explanatory.
The optimization measures include the open export versions.
